LONGVIEW, Wash. -- On Saturday, dozens of residents from Longview and Kelso braved the drizzly weather for the annual Longview Heart and Sole Walk/Run at the Elks Building in Longview.
The event kicked off with a free mini K for kids 12 and under to run around a small track. Participants from that race were handed awards from Craig Blanchette, a renowned paralympic athlete who won the bronze medal the 1988 Summer Paralympics in Seoul, South Korea. Blanchette, who is also a 2009 inductee into the Oregon Disabled Sports Hall of Fame, holds 21 world records in elite wheelchair racing.
After the mini race was completed, adult participants took off on their choice of either a 5K or 10K walk or run.
The event is organized by the Longview Kiwanis and proceeds benefit the City of Longview Teen Program.
