Dogs threaten mail service in Longview neighborhood

LONGVIEW, Wash. – The U.S. Postal Service is refusing to deliver mail to people who live along an entire block of Longview’s Highlands neighborhood because two dogs on the block have the mailman concerned for his safety.

Two families who share a duplex along 18th Avenue have dangerous dogs, according to the post office. Animal control says one of the dogs ripped the mailman’s pants and broke the skin last April.

Neighbors said they also feel threatened by the dogs.

“It came down into our yard from way down there and tried going after my daughter,” said neighbor Desiree Martin-Balch.

“They’ve had like 6 or 7 different warnings,” said James Haas.

The post office sent everyone on the block letters saying what they need to do in order to receive their mail.
